Welcome Meredith...

Dressed in a denim shirt with vegan leather shoulder patches and pocket, white skirt with underlining, and pink flats with a pink purse.  This ensemble is Meredith, the residential athlete of the group, style for the Italy Tour!

Two years ago, getting Meredith would be 'complete group' experience.  Ilee has stepping and expanded the troupe.  Like all of the others, Meredith is a beauty.  She has bright blue eyes and corn silk blonde hair. She has a mauve tinted lip.

Her ears, like all of my collection receive an ear piercing. With those eyes, the stone color was an easy selection. I purchased her right from TRU.com and paid a gleeful $9.99.  The sales are out of this world right now, and although I have quite a bounty, you must make an appointment to visit the site daily.

Thankful.

I saw a post that asked "what are you thankful for" and the list is infinity.  But let me abbreviate that list in this moment and say "for the ability to do what I love and share it with the world".

Part of sharing my art is making sure that I am running efficiently.  Next to a good spiritual balance, clean diet and exercise, organization is paramount.

Here is an example of what disorganization can do.  I am slightly OCD about being unable to start unless every tool, even the ones not required for the project at hand, is present.  As this labor of love expanded, I grew to shoe making, which is actually the cornerstone to why I started.  Journey Girls had cute clothes, but their shoes just did not please me. My tools for this craft must be contained in one space.  I lose too much time digging and searching for every thing required.

But now...

Beauty of Creating, the new work space, for the 'cobbler' in me!

I have a dedicated space not just for 'tooling' footwear, but one with reasonably accommodating room for current projects. My vinyl stock no longer rests 'here' and 'there' but together.

Not all of my dolls fit on the top tier, but it holds 15, which is far better than I imagined. When I proposed this unit, I expected the depth to be the distance between the shelves. Instead, it is the distance from the front to back.  No, dolls are not able to stand on anywhere but the top tier.  This was a bonus that I really had not imagined upon ordering.  The height is perfect.

My space allows me to continue, unstressed for the finer details, to be able to continue to do what I love and share it with the world!

Journey Girl - BOC Re-Imagined

For the Fall 2017 preview, and a featured outfit in the 6th Annual Detroit Doll Show, this re-creation was an amazing adventure, from sketch to finish! It will appear shortly at eBay and direct sell, as well a feature in the Holiday 2017 Brochure.

When I spied the original outfit on the net, it immediately screamed 'fall and shopping'.  One of the things I love to do during the fall is visit the orchard's, and thus the sketch-work for a re-creation began!

Instead of an "UGG" style boot from the original conception (which are arriving in the Holiday Catalog 2017), I decided to go with a short combat boot in caramel vegan leather matched with a Commuter Purse (#10313).

 Detroit Doll Show
Beauty of Creating presents a re-creation for Journey Girl Kyla,
Original (1), Re-Imagined (r).  Farmer's Market Day, featured at
the 6th Annual Detroit Doll Show

This outfit was not difficult at all to design since all of my pattern pieces are a mixed compilation from other patterns I constructed this year, like the leggings and the tunic top. The top started out as a tank in the original outfit, sold on eBay, Relaxing Summer Outfit, with a few more left in the series. I reconstructed it to produce long sleeves and lowered the hem to hip length. This tunic can offer an option as a dress when extended more towards the knee.

The leg warmers are from a draft I composed in 2015, while playing around with a Flashdance movie motif.  In order to be fashioned to be worn comfortably over leggings, I widened the tube.

Most of the materials used here in Farmer's Market Day hail from Fashion Fabrics Club, except for the purse and boots fabric, purchased at JoAnn Fabrics.

You will see many variations between the inspiration and the Farmer's Market Day version by Beauty of Creating, where I also included a farmer's tote and shop props to authenticate a real shopping experience.  Instead of the big side ponytail Kyla wears a high knot bun.

The look is completed with crystal stud earrings and a sterling silver triplet french rope necklace.

Pattern Coding System II - The Photograph

In a previous post back in May, I shared with you my creating a pattern coding system.  This coding system evolved from barely keeping track to an envelope with a date encoded tracking number with the necessary pieces for future retrieval.

Pattern pieces can quickly get away from if you are not filing them properly.  But you can also forget you have a pattern at all.  Here comes the 'photo' snapshot of the garment constructed to help speed up your recall of a previous sewing session.  Again, after many constructions of various patterns, garments, costumes, and shoes, somethings tend to run together into a big mind blur.

Taking a photograph of new patterns in their construct phase, as well as updating patterns that did not include photos, proves to be an incredible way to continue building a unique pattern drawer.

Next update: the Pattern Coding System III - The Instructions.

Remember this is an in-store promotion for a free $10 Toys R Us Gift Card with your purchase of $75 or more!

Detroit Doll Show...after

Thanks to everyone who supported this labor of love.  Preparing for the doll show was much more than sewing and dressing five dolls.  My desire was to give patrons a snapshot of what Beauty of Creating has to offer.
Me!

The event was a huge success and I am sure all participants would agree.  My sister joined me as 'copilot' and many old and new friends came to visit the Beauty of Creating vendor table.  We prepared gift/swag bags for the first 10 patrons to visit.  Additionally, there were gifts, doll clothes, shoes, and lots of future opportunities to win prizes.

l. to r. (Me), my nieces: Jada, Serenity, & Tanya, and my sister Pam
My niece Jada (and Me)
My niece Tanya drove in from Chicago to support her "TiTi", with my nieces Serenity and Jada!

Our major prize offer is for new and old friends to register for any of the three social media contacts to receive up to three entries into our doll giveaway/raffle.  When 25 new contacts register, I will post the dolls entering the contest, and participants vote on the one they would like to adopt, for free. The doll with the highest number of votes will be the 'gift'. Then we will electronically select a winner and post the winner on all (3) media locations. The winner will have 48 hours to claim the prize.

Detroit Doll Show is Now!

I did nothing yesterday...well, I did not do any work!  I took the day off to relax, relate, and release.  I should have done the prepping, packing, and paperwork, but I did...N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!!

So, here I am today, Thursday, the day before the Masquerade Party and I have so much more to do.  One more outfit to sew and assemble the 'travel'...hint. hint.  I need to decide if the 'purple pack' is going...jury is still out on that!

Packing up...and getting ready.  We're bringing all of the goodies.

Journey Girl - Chavonne...the new look!

I have reviewed Chavonne and she is very well known and a special part of the collection.  However, I need to review "this Chavonne" because I shaded TRU for introducing her while quietly removing the curly Chavonne out of circulation.

I apologize.  She is still Chavonne, but a look that could have been an addition not a substitution.  As women of color, we have different hues and textures. Her hair should not be straight all of the time, even if it makes her 'ambiguous' to anyone who wants to straighten her hair.

A bigger issue, I feared that her hair was 'hard' and 'wiglike'. To my surprise it is very soft like the curly Chavonne, just straight with curls on the ends. I get why she is present, but a replacement?

Here she is, unboxed, under the lights and camera...

She is a stunning beauty.  I needed to see for myself if she could make the grade and she does. I ordered two for gifts, and this one for myself during two consecutive flash sales at TRU.com.  I also picked up an additional "Kyla" dressed in the New York/Empire State tour outfit!

Beauty of Creating has lots of love for the new Chavonne. More will join us really soon!  But for now she might get a gig in the Detroit Doll Show!

Holiday Sale & $2.95 Shipping...Limited Time!

 Holiday Gift
Consumer Craft $2.95 Limited Time Shipping

Three Days to Curtain!

With three days to curtain, sleepy, excited, dolls delivering,
and pressing on, because...

The Detroit Doll Show is the event of the season!

I remember when I first attended the show in 2015, and
happy I was to hear about this event and participate
in the Doll Look-a-Like Contest, but
saddened because for three years, this event escaped
my know!

This year, I am a vendor joining the many other talented
artists from the U.S. and Canada to
show you and celebrate the beauty of the skin you are in!

This is not to exclude anyone, but to welcome all!
I remember leaving the 2015 event charged with the energy
and determination that I needed to invigorate my passion for
designing clothes for dolls.

This weekend, in Detroit I get to share in the most intimate way
with people I ordinarily would not see!

I want to see you there.
You do not want to miss this!
The energy in the room is one of the best you will ever experience!

If you have not purchased tickets, what are you waiting for?

Christmas Tree Decoration Search Continues...

Of course, every time I leave the house, I am finding my way upon the isles stocked with holiday and tree trimming ideas.  I do not want to flood this tree with silver, but I cannot resist, nor should I balk on great buys! I can always use them for something else or save to change the decor up for the years ahead.

A great little find that I may regret...

3 M Silver Bead Chain Garland by Bestpriceam
Why regrets? I was too mesmerized by its beauty that I really skipped the part about 'shipping time'.  For a great price, two weeks should not matter, right? This however, could take more than that. This gem could take right up to Christmas.

As much I am stunned by its beauty, price, and shipping time, I continue to seek decorations.  I ordered two strings, which may be more than I require for a mascot tree, but with the cost of shipping more than the item price, it was worth to avoid 'gosh I need two'.  I paid for shipping. I would expect that it will arrive by Thanksgiving or so.

I would not bet on it!  In the event you are interested in this item, I found it on Amazon

7 Days!

 Tickets and Information!

Between 5-7 of my designs will be featured at the 6th Annual Detroit Doll Show on November 10/11, 2017!  Most of the featured models have been chosen and ready for packaging.

The girls are getting dolledup...final fittings, pulling accessories, and even salon up-do's are going down!!!

If you remember, back in July before the 2017 Journey Girl's Aussie Adventure released to world, I spied on the TRU site that Chavonne with Curls was not available.  Before the word spread, I hurried to the net in search of some great deals.

Well, I found two and I regret not buying more.  While washing Chavonne's (#6 & #7) it brought tears to my eyes that these dolls are no longer in stock at TRU.  They need to reconsider this idea. There is nothing wrong with even bringing her out for just holiday's!  Sigh!

Well...we're excited, even for the two stars that may find a new home!  It is bittersweet.

7 Days until showtime!
