Detroit Doll Show...after
Thanks to everyone who supported this labor of love. Preparing for the doll show was much more than sewing and dressing five dolls. My desire was to give patrons a snapshot of what Beauty of Creating has to offer.

The event was a huge success and I am sure all participants would agree. My sister joined me as 'copilot' and many old and new friends came to visit the Beauty of Creating vendor table. We prepared gift/swag bags for the first 10 patrons to visit. Additionally, there were gifts, doll clothes, shoes, and lots of future opportunities to win prizes.

Our major prize offer is for new and old friends to register for any of the three social media contacts to receive up to three entries into our doll giveaway/raffle. When 25 new contacts register, I will post the dolls entering the contest, and participants vote on the one they would like to adopt, for free. The doll with the highest number of votes will be the 'gift'. Then we will electronically select a winner and post the winner on all (3) media locations. The winner will have 48 hours to claim the prize.

Three Days to Curtain!
With three days to curtain, sleepy, excited, dolls delivering,
and pressing on, because...
The Detroit Doll Show is the event of the season!
I remember when I first attended the show in 2015, and
happy I was to hear about this event and participate
in the Doll Look-a-Like Contest, but
saddened because for three years, this event escaped
my know!
This year, I am a vendor joining the many other talented
artists from the U.S. and Canada to
show you and celebrate the beauty of the skin you are in!
This is not to exclude anyone, but to welcome all!
I remember leaving the 2015 event charged with the energy
and determination that I needed to invigorate my passion for
designing clothes for dolls.
This weekend, in Detroit I get to share in the most intimate way
with people I ordinarily would not see!
I want to see you there.
You do not want to miss this!
The energy in the room is one of the best you will ever experience!

Back to School and Fall/Winter...Journal 8/15/2017
This year (unlike the production launch in Dec. 2015), Beauty of Creating not only will showcase a Back to School Collection, but also a separate Fall/Winter Collection (includes the Holiday Edition).
In Dec. 2015, the production was expressed in order to meet the holiday right after the immediate November Grand Re-Opening. Oh boy was November-Christmas a hustle and bustle time. Beauty of Creating accomplished a lot of work in 30 Days!
I was so stoked by the inspiring event of the 4th Annual Detroit Doll Show, that I could not believe how much blazing and burning up the midnight oil went on at that time. Now remember, I also started school in October 2015 for my second Master's degree.
These two events combined...
I still cannot believe how I achieved it all.
This years collections have not only the time for planning, but I am well aware that the 2017 Academy Collection is not going to be enough to fuel my creativity, which is another reason it is separated from the Fall/Winter 2017. I am in production as we speak for the 2017 Academy Collection and so excited for you to see what is in store for our Journey Girls Worldwide!
I have designed some new pieces to add to an existing collection, but overall these additions basically function as an 'upgrade'.
This was a hugely popular collection. Every piece in the collection sold with the exception of the plaid dress. At this time, recall, that Beauty of Creating was only a direct sell enterprise. The eBay store did not reopen until mid-2016, and that was just for a limited run.
I can only estimate the number of pieces but you will see a comparison/contrast. I think it is important to see our growth, but also how time can provide so much more to offer.
The Fall/Winter 2017 Collection is going to be huge. I will tell you that it will launch at the 6th Annual Detroit Doll Show, November 10-12th, 2017.

| It was here that I met God's Angel, the late Jendayi Iyi (l) who I first encountered at the event. She asked me if she could take my picture. Then suddenly a crowd encamped around me. Kids from 0-100 wanted to take a picture with me. Something magical happened that day. I knew I would never be the same! |
This year's event, The 6th Annual 2017 Detroit Doll Show will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 5801 Southfield Fwy., Detroit, MI 48228.
The admission for Saturday's Doll Exhibit, Workshop, Arts & Craft, Auction, Raffle, Doll Look Alike Contest and Shop events cost just $5 early Bird, $10 at the door.
Beauty of Creating will be a vendor this year. Stop by and visit while you are there!

Questions & Answers
How long have you been sewing?
BOC: I started sewing around the age of eight. That is almost 40 years. The initial inspiration was to make doll clothes, for my “Darci Cover Girl” doll, from a Christmas wish granted. The following Christmas I asked for a sewing machine. I received a Holly Hobbie, my first machine. I continued to sew mostly by hand, taught to me by my mother. She taught me the chain and the blind hem. My first sewing projects were repairing socks.
What inspires you to sew today?
BOC: The dolls continue to inspire me. I mostly sew now for the larger dolls, 18” Journey Girls by Toys R Us. I designed for Barbie for many years.
Where do get your ideas for clothing designs?
BOC: I draw inspiration from fashion concepts re-imagined. Nothing is ever really out of style. My first generation patterns took a lot of processing time. From there, ideas flourish and build from that foundation.
Did you take any formal training?
BOC: No. I am self-taught. I barely liked to read instruction manuals. For years, I audited store bought patterns simply because some of them had poor instructions. I discovered new ways to achieve the same thing or some variation.
How do you construct new ideas? What materials do you use in your pattern making?
BOC: I start with a picture of an original idea from an adult or child photo. I start sketching the details with color pencils, giving it an initial code. I then plan the fabric. I either pencil the pattern to paper or drape from scraps. My first draping material was felt scraps. I still use whatever is handy. I try not to throw a new construction onto the fabric used for the final garment. Sometimes I do and the idea comes together nicely. Other times the drafts help me to work out the struggles.
Any new projects or plans for the near future?
BOC: New projects come up all of the time. The major projects are the new launch of the EBAY store. I plan to create a commemorative design inspired by the late artist Prince. In the fall, I will join SandyLand’s Detroit Doll Show as a vendor.
However, new inspirations, ideas, and events spring up all of the time. I try to share this with the world. It is my legacy. I am grateful for social media, because it allows me to take the platform and reach people all over the world who I otherwise would never see locally.
