Brown Sugar & Spice Baseball Tee #30424

On a whim, I thought about designing or re-purposing an existing free clip art.  This one I found online, totally free to use.  I added some curvy lettering and this was the result!

The design was inspired by the new pattern I designed #30424 JG Raglan Shirt (baseball tee).  Since this is the season for baseball, the decision was easy to converge these ideas into one rendering.

I absolutely love the results of this pattern/tee for its test run.  The screen print supports my natural hair movement. I may extend the hemline on the shirt as an option.  The sleeve length is perfect!

I will likely finish this look with a newly designed white sneaker; but the brown chunky sandals that dropped last summer, turned this spring's biggest heavy hitter, would mesh well as an alternate!

If you would like to see a pattern tutorial on this shirt, leave a message below!

Girl Charlee Order Update...

The order placed on Saturday with Girl Charlee processed and it appears that even with that crazy sale, I might have all of the order based on the online invoice.  The package ships FEDEX and delivers in a few days.  I will keep you posted on its arrival.  Expect a haul and review!  Until then...

Well then is now!

Let's start with the bad...the shipping seems kind of steep at $7.99 flat rate when there is nothing expeditious about it.  Did this order really need to go by way of UPS and travel seven days from CA to MI?  From the time the order was processed, until the time it reached my mailbox (including the transfer from UPS to USPS was 10 days).  Is that what $8 in shipping gets you?  OYE! Asking for a friend...

Now to the good...everything that I ordered was in stock.  It appears, from this order that they process quickly.  When there is an order and it has a long processing/cutting time you run the risk of having part of this order 'sold out' by the time they get to you.  Now of course this can happen on a (1) day processing, but that (3) day processing is almost a guarantee that something will be shortened out of the order.

Another good, the fabrics are g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s!  They are exactly as they appear online.  For having amazing imaging GirlCharlee rivals Fashion Fabrics Club.

I will definitely keep Girl Charlee as the companion (1-2) especially when it comes to knits!

That half off - half yard sale was the bombdotcom.  Thanks for the order.  I can move on now to a review.

Fashion Fabric Club Re-Order Listing

For future reference, I decided to run a list of 'best hits' from Fashion Fabric Club.  I am planning to do another for Girl Charlee, when the order arrives tomorrow.

I wanted to this because I sew through so many fabric weights that it is essential to at least place a notation on a specific weight class so that I am prompted to re-order this, should this item become available!

This list will of course be modified, in the future, but as for now the 'best hits' are not to suggest other fabrics did not stand up to the challenge.  The 'best hits' signify that this fabric number proved to be exactly what I wanted, sight unseen.  When you buy fabric online, you void the sensation of sight and feel.  You take a risk.  Sometimes this is necessary when there are 20 types, varying weights.  Very often the description teeters on 'untrue' and 'their culture'.  In other words, we speak different fabric languages.

Invitation to Join Old Newsboy Goodfellow Doll Workshop

Recently, a classmate from my high school reached out to me on social media with a special invitation to join the Old Newsboy Goodfellow Doll Workshop. Needless to say, I am thrilled to join this cause!

I will begin this venture first by joining the 2017 Awardees for a Luncheon at the Detroit Roostertail and from here I begin my quest to dress and impress!

There is nothing more precious than the extension of service and creating lovely garments to dress beautiful dolls to gift to little girls to cherish for a lifetime!  It is a pleasure to be asked and I look forward to sharing further details.

In order to fund this project, the pattern downloads and the current shop brochure will assess a project fee.

Thank you in advance to all who lend a hand to giving a kid a Christmas!

Out with the old...In with the new

I recently dumped fabric.com.  In the wake of this departure, I discovered two new online shops that I am adding the first one added to the list is  Girl Charleegirlcharlee.com (Specializes in knits...like wow!!!).  I watch/follow the vlog/blog of MimiGStyle and she suggests this one as one her favorite spots.

Your Friend who Referred You: Dronellar

I placed my first order with GirlCharlee.  The shipping is $7.99 flat rate.  I bumped into a half-off half/yard sale, which was prime for my taste, because I like small stashes.  I probably should not be buying any fabric but I love knits for my dolls.  They make for great leggings, t-shirts, and turtlenecks!

If you love knits...why not? You never know what new customer sales and discounts you may bump into.  You should know that sale items do not apply discount codes.

Happy Shopping!  Do not forget to tell them that Dronellar sent you!

Pattern Coding System Part V: Storing.

Pattern Coding System Web Series:

Part I: The Coding.
Part II: The Photograph.
Part III: The Instructions.
Part IV: The Inventory.

Finally we have arrived to the end.  I know it has been a while since I submitted Part IV, but no worries, we are here to close this series and give you access (those who are new) to the express notifications of the previous parts!

Storing your patterns is a very important part of this process of designing and coding your work.  You might think "this is obvious" what I am about to say, but the truth is, I feel it necessary to share this because my first generation of designs for Barbie, well...they are barely retrievable.  The envelopes make a good home for your pattern pieces, while a bin, tote, or covered box provides a dust/moisture free environment.

Just as you want your inventory accessible for last minute retrieval, where you keep your patterns is optimum for putting together your outfits in record time. Place your patterns in their respective location in numerical order!

Pattern Storage Box
I am learning more and more that this is huge!  Here is why.  This year alone instead of increasing my pattern drawer and collection, I am now re-branding, rebuilding, and expanding the current.  Likewise, I recently created some patterns for sharing, and decided to launch the pattern code to the piece or outfit for this Spring/Summer 2018 Collection. Attaching the pattern number to the outfit further reduces the need to create brand new patterns for pieces that already exist somewhere in the design system.

As your outfits become a blending of several patterns, you soon realize how heavily dependent you are on Storing your patterns!

Finally, like all things to be accessible, you must keep them in there proper place when not in use.  When you are working on a project, grab a 1 gallon baggie and place all of your patterns required for your project inside.  Not only does it further protect them from damage, but keeps them together.  You will not have spend hours looking for the shoes you know you pulled out of the drawer.  You will know they are with the cardigan, slacks, and blouse!

Thanks for following this series.  Feel free to comment and share if you find any of this useful! 💖💖💖

how one signature spring-summer outfit

...turned into an entire collection

Nothing goes as planned, very often when it comes to artistry.  I learned a long time ago, make plans, but leave a lot of room for inspiration, that often drops in unexpectedly.

Originally I planned an entire bounty for Winter, short of the awesome collection turned out for the Fall, headlined at the 6th Annual Detroit Doll Show.  When that was swapped out for the 18th Anniversary Ensemble, I considered punishing myself and only releasing one complete signature design for Spring/Summer and focus the remaining space on shoes.

Then JoAnn Fabric happened...and it does not happen often, but lately this store has been in the zone!!!

I had a bag full of coupons, and along with their sales, I walked out with a haul of solid cottons and floral cottons...and here we go!  Another plan backed into the fan blades of spontaneous creativity!

Does this mean the shoes are trashed until next year?  Not at all.  They will companion this Spring/Summer Collection.  So far, it is off to a good start...we have featured: gold, silver, black, white...along with lots of flowers and bare shoulders, just to summarize.

fabric.com What happened?

A few months ago I was granted a business partnership with fabric.com and was grateful for the opportunity to shop and save.  It seems while one hand graciously welcomed me, another appears to be taking away what made fabric.com my premiere online fabric store.

I believe that more than a year has passed since I placed an order with them.  They still have an awesome web presence and I have been nothing short of amazed with my orders from them.

The problem is that they rarely offer anything less than a yard.  The minimum is quite often 2 or more yards to meet the requirement to purchase.  This is not a problem for those making human garments and able to warehouse bundles of fabric.

For me, a smaller craft house, yards and yards is not practical or economical. Even though I often receive adjusted orders and 'out of stock' listings on my invoices from FFC Fashion Fabric Club, they cater to my business because they allow me to purchase less than a yard.  The website is not boasting color, but I am able to sample in small pieces, make a list of what is favorable for re-order, and find loads of sales.

As much as fabric.com was the premiere spot, it has lost its favor with me.

Even JoAnn's has been on my 'heart' list of late.  Although they also have a sketchy minimum purchase caveat, at least they are local and allow you to shop and ship free to the store!
