Fresh Picks for the Season

Fall has set.  Did I tell you it is my favorite season?  The fragrances of warm earthy spices truly set this season apart!

Beauty of Creating, is saluting harvest!  This palette of brown and green,
in a variety of textures and weights
is a collection I put together from of all of my favorite fabric barns,
hailing from as far as the UK!

Much like harvest, I have been gathering together this palate of brown and green, not really knowing where it would lead me, but I am leaning towards a complete ensemble, I am talking a full blown wardrobe of 'mixes and matches" for Journey Girls lovers to take home and cherish for many seasons to come!

A project is coming soon...and I hope to use all of this bounty, and perhaps a splash of red or rust? Who knows! Welcome to the season of harvest!  

We're Changing to Make More Room for Newer Listings!

In our effort to better service our regular shoppers who enjoy the adventures of seeing newer listings, we made the executive decision to move many of our listings to our ETSY shop!

But because we are growing so fast, we must continue to seek strategies that will enable more listings to come to you!  We would like to continue to give our customers the option of making offers, however our space is limited.  It is time that we all move out of our 'holding patterns' and grow!

The demand for Journey Girls clothing and accessories is steady climbing.  With the recent closing of Toys 'R' Us we strive to answer the call in providing millions of Journey Girl customers the pleasure and opportunity to obtain our products and services with the least amount of friction in the shopping experience.

We recognize that our partner eBay has vowed to discontinue the built-in 'collection' option for customers and this lengthy transition toward its end is making it quite difficult for new customers and existing shoppers to find us and the many similar options we have in our listings.

One of the ways we are maximizing our efforts to improve your shopping experience is by pulling 'collections' of similar items and stacking them in a 'drop down' menu for you! 

Unfortunately in order to do this, we must sacrifice the "make offer" option we typically provide our customers allowing them to negotiate up to 30% off of our listed prices.

Journey Girl - BOC Re-Imagined

For the Fall 2017 preview, and a featured outfit in the 6th Annual Detroit Doll Show, this re-creation was an amazing adventure, from sketch to finish! It will appear shortly at eBay and direct sell, as well a feature in the Holiday 2017 Brochure.

When I spied the original outfit on the net, it immediately screamed 'fall and shopping'.  One of the things I love to do during the fall is visit the orchard's, and thus the sketch-work for a re-creation began!

Instead of an "UGG" style boot from the original conception (which are arriving in the Holiday Catalog 2017), I decided to go with a short combat boot in caramel vegan leather matched with a Commuter Purse (#10313).

This outfit was not difficult at all to design since all of my pattern pieces are a mixed compilation from other patterns I constructed this year, like the leggings and the tunic top. The top started out as a tank in the original outfit, sold on eBay, Relaxing Summer Outfit, with a few more left in the series. I reconstructed it to produce long sleeves and lowered the hem to hip length. This tunic can offer an option as a dress when extended more towards the knee.

The leg warmers are from a draft I composed in 2015, while playing around with a Flashdance movie motif.  In order to be fashioned to be worn comfortably over leggings, I widened the tube.

Most of the materials used here in Farmer's Market Day hail from Fashion Fabrics Club, except for the purse and boots fabric, purchased at JoAnn Fabrics.

You will see many variations between the inspiration and the Farmer's Market Day version by Beauty of Creating, where I also included a farmer's tote and shop props to authenticate a real shopping experience.  Instead of the big side ponytail Kyla wears a high knot bun.

The look is completed with crystal stud earrings and a sterling silver triplet french rope necklace.

Free Fabric and 40% Off!

First thing's first...

I planned an impromptu fabric haul for the Journey Girl Dolls at JoAnn Fabric.  The 40% off all regular priced fabric and merchandise was the tipping point. There was so much on sale that I did not believe this to be a worthwhile trip in '40 % off' savings...but it was!!!

Not only did I knock a huge chunk off of the bill, but I got a piece of fabric for free!!!  The one I actually wanted, desired, longed for...since last night's perusal of Pink2Paris (YouTube) Channel.  In one of her ensembles, she is sporting a pink Burberry scarf.  I hit up JoAnn.com to prepare for the shopping trip today and I could not find it.  I even checked fabric.com...fail!

Well I got it for free inside JoAnn Fabric Store!!!  How?  It would not scan at the cutting counter.  Therefore, the clerk suggested it to be a discontinued fabric and the price pulled from the system.  So...FREE!!!

BFC Ink Dolls

Looking to expand the collection, months back I started perusing the internet, specifically searching for dolls with movable joints. In the industry they are referred to as "15 points of articulation" or some high variant of that.  This essentially means that the doll has the capabilities to be posed in 100 or so positions.  This feature is essential to expand my athletics/fitness line for dolls.

This does not mean that 5 point articulation dolls, the industry standard for dolls have to stand still! Absolutely not. If my dolls could talk, they would tell you that get a workout on just being the perfect Journey Girl model.

My niece, named Journee asked me what I thought about these dolls.  I told her that I was very interested in them but I struggled to find the right one and a little saddened that I missed out on Scholastic's endorsed the BFC Ink Doll by MGA. The Best Friends Club went away around 2011, just before I purchased a new machine (2012) but my muse was not back yet!  Oh the regret!!!

As I shared before, great things do not last and when they go they increase in value.

I am very excited to inform you that I found Noelle, a friend to the original BFC Ink Collection of Calista, Kaitlyn, and Addison, in the order shown below:

For now, here is Noelle, in the box.  I found her on eBay in the box.  She delivers on or around October 3rd! 

She will receive a review once she arrives!  If she fits the idea that I have in mind, she will be adopted out to one very fortunate doll collector!

Recently, with 'costume season' looming, our Direct Sell (DS) has shown an uptick in requests.

For those unsure, Direct Sale or Sell (DS) is a face to face communicated transaction in an non-retail environment.  These transactions originate through phone, but primarily through Facebook, Instagram, direct message, or any other social media application.  

The alternative transaction environment also known as Beauty of Creating's primary retail environment is via eBay.  

Beauty of Creating frequently extends its creative concepts to both customer environments in terms of promotions and special offers. However, there is a greater difference in the two environments. Not every transaction goes perfectly.  This is why as a seller/buyer, you want to:

1.  Review your item description carefully before buying/selling for details on product, handling, shipping, and return.
2.  Understand that you the buyer/seller, are responsible for what you communicate to seller/buyer.
3.  Trust that you have eBay on your side in the event that the transaction does not go as anticipated, when you follow your agreement as a buyer/seller.

Sometimes you will encounter a customer who wants your product, but does not trust the labor/value enough to complete the transaction favorably.  In the end, the unhappy customer will never retain an item that they do not want, or believe was falsely showcased, especially when the cost to return is free, made payable by the seller.  

No matter how many positive transactions appear on the surface, behind the doors of the eCommerce solution, loads of unwelcome intents exacts itself upon the space.  

Trust and believe, that eventually, eBay will not contend with buyers/sellers abusing their contractual agreements.   Additionally, you as the buyer/seller have the option of blocking a buyer/seller from purchasing/showcasing within your eBay experience.

Back to School 2017...Recommences!

You can probably imagine the disappointment that came over me when I discovered, on a recent fabric haul at JoAnn's that my favorite embossed felt had left the building...and in a flash sale it seems!

Prior to this visit, I did notice that the embossed felt went way down to like $.50. I was too thrilled to be getting it at a bargain, that I felt no urgency to be alarmed at a discontinuation mounting.

And mounting it was...I quickly composed myself, purchased the regular felt in a "by the yard bundle" and resided with this new reality.  When I arrived home however, I went straight to the internet.

The thrill!  I not only found it but it sold in a bulk package!

The package contains 24 - 12 x 9 sheets.  It delivered!  And Back 2 School 2017 can proudly resume production!
