Throwback Thursday: Spring 2016

The ensemble began as a sketch, with me discovering this 'fat quarter' of yellow with tea roses, it bloomed into a reality.  I started sketching pretty early, this photo shoot delivered around February 2016.  The ensemble did not get a showcase name.  Like so many of the clothes I make for Journey Girls, I wanted to keep it! LOL! I really did not push it out and advertise it.  Strangely, it peaked someone's interest.

The first time it sold it was a 5 PC ensemble.  When made the second one, I generously added a second pair of shoes, a pair of slingbacks as companion!

Boot Workshop...continues

Last week I previewed a draft for the riding boot.  Since then I have advanced toward designing other styles.  I anticipated the Combat Boot to be the greatest challenge and in some ways it peaks.  However, try throwing a zipper into a space not even three fingers can fit into...Ha!

It might be "Indian Summer" around here but this is the Midwest Fall, and next week could be bone chilling...not enough to snow and stick since the ground is too warm, but it is high time before Winter sets, to start giving the Journey Girls some foot flare!

Here is a boot that I have been working out the rough draft for, and so far I think I know what to do to fix the foibles.  The color online is Teak.  The boots will pretty much come in any color that is possible to buy!

I love the color and I have a few zippers in that color family, sort of, but I decided to draft anyway and wait for my shipment to arrive that hopefully contains a color closer to the palette.  Keep your fingers crossed!

BFC Ink Dolls

Looking to expand the collection, months back I started perusing the internet, specifically searching for dolls with movable joints. In the industry they are referred to as "15 points of articulation" or some high variant of that.  This essentially means that the doll has the capabilities to be posed in 100 or so positions.  This feature is essential to expand my athletics/fitness line for dolls.

This does not mean that 5 point articulation dolls, the industry standard for dolls have to stand still! Absolutely not. If my dolls could talk, they would tell you that get a workout on just being the perfect Journey Girl model.

My niece, named Journee asked me what I thought about these dolls.  I told her that I was very interested in them but I struggled to find the right one and a little saddened that I missed out on Scholastic's endorsed the BFC Ink Doll by MGA. The Best Friends Club went away around 2011, just before I purchased a new machine (2012) but my muse was not back yet!  Oh the regret!!!

As I shared before, great things do not last and when they go they increase in value.

I am very excited to inform you that I found Noelle, a friend to the original BFC Ink Collection of Calista, Kaitlyn, and Addison, in the order shown below:

For now, here is Noelle, in the box.  I found her on eBay in the box.  She delivers on or around October 3rd! 

She will receive a review once she arrives!  If she fits the idea that I have in mind, she will be adopted out to one very fortunate doll collector!

Product Review: Aleene's Tacky Spray

I have tried many concoctions for crafting.  Aleene's is a trusted brand with their bottled tacky glue.  It was a no-brainer that when I struggled with larger constructions that just did not seem to bode well with hot glue, I leaned on an old friend!

This stuff is magic, unlike the one I purchased for a $1 at the Dollar Tree, which takes quite a while to bond.

It bonds fast, but you have to make sure that you isolate the space in which you are working.

I use a huge cardboard diy table but you can also use a cardboard box.  I purchased two cans from Amazon because of the price point.  I have not been disappointed yet.

It is sticky so make sure you use a pair of tweezers or wear disposable gloves! Overall, it is a great companion for a doll cobbler like myself!

Welcome to this week's Throwback Thursday.  Brown seemed to show up so very often this week.  Now that Beauty of Creating is working on Fall/Winter gear, specifically shoes and boots, it would only be fitting that we take you back to our Winter Collection 2016/2017 to this featured ensemble: "Top Flight".

Did You Hear the News?

Toys R Us is in the process of launching a brand new Journey Girls website.

This is just a small image of what it looks like currently, with the Australian Adventure group photo.  The site remains under construction. You are welcomed to click the image which can take you right to the preview! I know I will be bookmarking it!

I just love Journey Girls Dolls!  Ah...this is such an inspiration to look forward to! 

This is exciting news however is a bit shadowy, as it comes just days before the announcement that Toys R Us will be filing bankruptcy. Based on public opinion this has occurred before.  It is no surprise with the stores looking virtually empty, the neglect of the JG signature brand in exchange for the AG display, along with more customers choosing the wide availability of e-commerce over retail shopping.

Stay tuned to see what TRU has in store for toy lovers all over the world!

Boot Workshop...in the Meantime

One of my favorite novelty fabric merchant's ships as slow molasses in the winter.  I cannot understand why it takes so long for the order to move, but such is life.

In the meantime, winter will be here soon and there is no point in waiting for the first snow to get my Journey Girls boots on the ground!

Expect to see at a minimum of three (3) boot styles: Combat Boot, Riding Boot, and the Wellington Boot (rain boots).  The Combat boot will likely have a tall and short style.

While reviewing my own boot collection and googling for some 'human' inspirations, I started sketching and generating a first draft.  It is not a bad start, but like drafts go, they often report to you what works and what does not.  In my case, the order of piecing together the structure of the boot, is as important as determining when and where to lay the stitching.

I do love the lacing!

Since a sock will likely be worn with the boot, I placed a sock on Hayden's (our model) foot.

I am already taking diligent notes so that I can make the necessary adjustments to move along to Draft 2.  I want to make sure that the product you see for purchase is perfected!

Throwback Thursday: "Junior Prom" Spring/Summer 2016

I remember standing in the JoAnn's mesmerized by the 'dot' collection in such beautiful pastels, and thinking about Spring/Summer which is traditionally a prom and formal event season, starting with Easter.

Recently, with 'costume season' looming, our Direct Sell (DS) has shown an uptick in requests.

For those unsure, Direct Sale or Sell (DS) is a face to face communicated transaction in an non-retail environment.  These transactions originate through phone, but primarily through Facebook, Instagram, direct message, or any other social media application.  

The alternative transaction environment also known as Beauty of Creating's primary retail environment is via eBay.  

Beauty of Creating frequently extends its creative concepts to both customer environments in terms of promotions and special offers. However, there is a greater difference in the two environments. Zippers are Important!

For any creative designer, the zipper is an important part of the toolbox. I prefer to buy mine in bulk so that I am able to save but also pass those savings along to the customer.

This season, zippers are on the increase in use because of jackets, slacks, backpacks, etc.

A recent zipper haul of a collection of navy blue's arrived and I could not have been more pleased.  My trust for zippers is the Zipper Stop based in NY, purchased via their etsy store.  They can make your zipper order special.

I am sure another order for tan is next with the uniform khaki color making a huge comeback this fall!

I arranged a color chart of some of their available zipper colors to help me with my order.  Combining their numbered color swatch chart with the coordinating color listing name, I formed my own reference.  It is a huge help when placing orders.
