Barber Shop Stop & Rafael's Unboxing/Review

I did promise to do a review on Rafael, the Our Generation Boy Doll that I recently adopted.  As promised that is forthcoming.  I noticed that the calendar reads a lot going on in the next few weeks and these boys need a formal introduction in Beauty of Creating Style!

The weather is warming, along with Spring's debut, and soon the boys of summer will be kicking off their 2018 season.  Look for the boys to join the Tigers on Opening Day!

To get them ready for pattern designs and fittings, we wanted to give them a great start, by nothing other than a visit to the barber chair!  The ladies are always getting primped and curled and we did not want the guys to feel unappreciated.

Here is Rafael...

Our Generation "Raphael" Spring Debut

When Rafael delivered he, as I anticipated did not look exactly like the rendering in the ad.  His face, thinner, his clothes a little tighter, and his hair quite long.

Let's start there, because his hair was by far the first challenge I wanted to master.  Based on previews, Rafael's hair is gelled down and not in a good way.  First order of business, wash!

After conditioning and towel drying I was able see how much hair he was actually working with, thus the scissors worked well to reduce much of the bulk and do a preliminary cut and style.  His hair would fair better for cutting when dry than wet.  He still had far too much hair but after drying it completely overnight, it was to the barber chair for a major trim and clip!

Using two guards, the #2 first and then reduced to the #1, the blades retracted to base.  He still wears more on top, but now the shape completely alters his face appearance giving it a fuller look!

Beauty of Creating introduces Raphael,
from the Our Generation Collection (TARGET)

Rafael and MyPal the Patroit "Josh" will add to the pattern collection of Beauty of Creating.  Their bodies are not congruent with our Journey Girls and we are okay with that!

Taking Rafael's measurements, his waist is an inch larger.  Before we can get him dressed in B.O.C. designs we definitely need to draft new patterns that compliment his physique.

Seeing both Rafael and "Josh" it validates to me why we are not fond of the American Girl Dolls, notably the girls.  Their shoulders are very broad and masculine, more fitting for boys.

Rafael's packaged ensemble is not bad, but you will likely not see him in it again.  His clothes are functional, but quite unflattering.  Before I can move to "Josh", Rafael's needs take precedence.

Rafael's torso is completely soft, much like AG dolls.  His eyes appear blue-green, though many collectors suggest gray.

We are quite excited for both of our male models and what BOC has in store for them.  Look forward to these guys in our Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter Collections 2018!
